Global Medical Device Industry Flourishes: Innovation-Driven Growth and Rising Domestic Strength

The global market size of medical devices is projected to exceed $680 billion in 2025, maintaining a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 5.5%, driven by aging populations, surging prevalence of chronic diseases, and the rapid integration of digital health technologies worldwide. Asia has emerged as a key growth engine, contributing more than 40% of the global growth, with China’s domestic innovation capacity and manufacturing advantages redefining the global supply chain structure.
Technological innovation remains the core driver of industry development. Artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled medical device software is expected to reach a market size of $32 billion in 2025, a 28% increase from the previous year, while the installed base of remote patient monitoring devices has surpassed 120 million units globally. As of September 2025, 17 major global markets have updated their medical device regulatory frameworks, and digital therapy approval channels have been established in 12 countries. In China, the NMPA has optimized review and approval processes, opening green channels for innovative medical devices to shorten the R&D-to-market cycle. Meanwhile, the update of 139 national and industrial standards in 2025, including the first national standard for brain-computer interface medical devices, has standardized industry innovation.
